Is there any reason that would prevent me from finding a dash cluster with a tach in it, from say a '95, and then replacing the original cluster with it in my '93? This has worked on a number of other cars I've had...
You can do it, but you might have to get matching plugs too, ar some other wireing trick. When I installed a Tach in our Aerostar, I put it on the window column, near the bottom. It looks alright, though it is not as close to the other guages as I'd really like.
As far as I know, there is no analog cluster for the Aero with Tach. The digital one came with a tach though, but you would have to replace some of the sensors for it to work.
Another idea that has been floating through my head is that a cluster out of a F-150 of the same era looks almost identical to the Aero cluster, so I think those might swap. Or maybe looking into a Ranger/Explorer cluster, but I believe they are a different shape and would not be compatible.
I was toying with the idea of moving my digital dash form my non running 90 LWB Eddie Bauer to my 91 XLT. After digging into both I gave it up. First of all, as mentioned before, there are different sensors, which is the least of the problems. The analog dash only has two wiring connectors leading into the cluster whereas the digital has three. So there would be a helluva lot of rewiring that needs to be done. I'll just add a separate tach later.....

Actually the wires are there for either. You would need the extra connector it is added to a male in the wiring harness.
