I started up my '92 Navajo/Explorer, 4.0L auto. The idle was running about 2500~3000 RPM's (usually around 800 or so). I shut it off and tried again, 3 times, then it stopped doing that, but now it will only idle around 450~500 RPM's ??
If the motors cold, it won't keep running, but once it warms up, it somewhat idles, again at 450~500 RPM's. Otherwise it runs fine, no hesitation or anything when ya step on the gas.
I didn't see/hear any signs of vacuum leaks.
Could be a number of things; IAC valve, TPS (throttle postion sensor), or the fuel filter. I'd start with cleaning the IAC. There is an excellent sticky for it at the top of this forum.
