Help me out guys!!! I got home from work tonight and noticed the dome light and cargo light was on in my truck (I didn't drive it to work). I opened the drivers door and checked to make sure someone didnt manually turn them on. I pushed in the door switch and nothing happened. I checked the passenger side but couldn't find a switch. I pulled the fuse to keep from draining the battery. Anyone else experienced something like this? I'm guessing that the door switch went bad, but then again I'm not a master mechanic. Can anyone point me in the right direction? 92 F150 XLT 4X4 302 V8 Supercab
a door pin switch has fallen back due to rust in the cab, the wire to the pin switch broke off and is rubbing on the body of the truck closing the connection, or the headlight switch shorted.
i just cut the wire and put in a toggle and just pushed it right in to the dome light caseing, it fit perfectly.it looked like some on got somethink stuck in the door jam and slammed the door on it cauing the part of the door jam aroung the switch to cave in so that when i shut the door it does not push the switch in, i tried to fix it but no luck.

This happened to me on my 81 crewcab. I ended up taking the parking brake bits out and tearing the whole thing down the sheet metal - then hammering it flat from the inside using a roofing hammer, with a 2x4 on the outside to prevent it from sticking out too far. Drilled the hole round (since hammering the area makes for oddly shaped hole) and reinstalled a new pin switch.
Was a lot of work for a $1 pin switch.... but it worked.
Just posting an update. Sorry for the delay. I found the passenger side door switch and took it out to check the wiring on it. The switch was corroded and the contacts were shorted, making the cargo and dome lights stay on. I unplugged the door switch and the lights went out!! Now all I need is a new door switch. Thanks for the help guys!!!
