I'm not sure what it's problem was. I tried to start the truck the next day, and it fired up and ran fine. The exhaust smelled like crap. I left the choke on to make it richer just for my test. The tank was very empty, so I only poured in about a gallon of ethanol if that, just to try it out. I tried to adjust the timing, but the distributor was stuck, and I couldn't find the timing mark, so I just called it a night.
What all would I have to get to convert my ignition system to a dura spark ignition? Whats the trick with the chrysler box about?
Sorry for being gone for so long, by ISP's server crashed and they were gone for the weekend. Boneheads.
Anyway, I'm not really concerned with what engine was up there in the junkyard truck. The emissions sticker said 360, and everything else looked pretty much stock. Even if it is a 390 or something bigger, I dont need it at the moment. Plenty of 390's up there for the taking anyway.
So now the streetmaster is up at the machine shop, and the dual plane is nice and clean sitting here at home. Remember, this ethanol motor will be going into a mustang; I think the single plane will work just fine in that vehicle, especially with a manual transmission.
I might stick a bigger coil on it. I see no reason points wouldn't be able to trigger one though. I am kind of scared of doing so though, since I had an Accel Stupor Stock coil leave me stranded a few times. Who makes a GOOD RELIABLE ignition coil?
I've heard good things about the Crane LX-91. Combined with the XR-3000 ignition, it's supposed to be really reliable. A guy in town here has it on a 75 F-250 and Raves about it. I am going with the Pertronix because Bumper to Bumper gives me a good discount.
