Hey guys. Doing a minor rebuild on my 351m this weekend. Replacing all bearings , gaskets, cam, lifters, timing set, Going with a sp2p intake and a edelbrock 6105. Do you have any tips , tricks, or things I should really look for?

What is an Edelbrock #6105? It does not show up in my catalog.

Also The Performer is a better intake than the SP2P, but if that is all you have - go with it.

Make sure you get a timing set that you can install straight up at zero. While you are there put in a better cam and a new oil pump if the old one is at all in doubt.

A brain fart. Sorry. 1406
Went with a summit cam and summit roller timing set. I believe the rpm range is 1500 to 4500.

Are you going to rering it? If you do make sure you be prepared to pull the engine, rebore with oversize pistons if the cylinders are too worn.

In the old days inframe overhauls were quite common and quite effective, but sometimes they were completed when the engine was so worn that it should have been pulled, bored and completely redone.

Another thing is if you rering, use cast iron rings and don't hone the cylinder walls. If you're using other than cast iron rings, then you MUST hone the cylinder walls.

I have the Summit cam and am happy with it.

Good luck,
Doc

If you pull the motor and bore it, why not go to a 400 crank and pistons as well?

I had to pull the motor to remove a broken exhaust bolt. Thats why I thought I would replace a few things since it was already out. I'm not doing the rings the motor ran fine from what I could tell. This is just for off road use only and trying to keep the wife happy and spend as little money as possible. I would have went the 400 route if I hadn't already spent some of my money on a lift kit.
Also the rings and eveything else looked real good but I found what appeared to be a bearing chewed up in the oil pan. Thats why I ripped everything else apart. Can't find where the bearing came from. It is not from this engine because all the bearings were where they are supposed to be and it has not been rebuilt before.
