2001 exp spt leaking front diff

2001 exp spt leaking front diff
I have a 2001 explorer sport 4x4. My front differential is leaking, and while it is not a lot, it is enough to blow back on my exaust and really stink. The leak appears to be coming from the cover plate of the diff. Does anyone know if there is anymore to fixing this other then, draning the fluid, pulling off the plate and resealing it with gray silicone?
