Looking for Discontinued Part

I am looking for a Gear Shift Dampener, Ford Part No. D9BZ7K453B. Goes on my SROD; part was discontinued 08/23/2000 according to Ford dealer.

Anyone know of a place that may stock discontinued parts, or a place that still has one?

Thanks.

ecarter50: They only got 22 now, pal; thanks. You would not believe how many places I contacted looking for this thing.

fatforty: fordpartsonline doesn't have any - but they were kind enough to pore over their drawings while we talked. From my description of where it went and what the brocken one looked like, they came up with the number for me in the first place. Without them, I could not have gotten started on the search (I did order other parts from them).

Unsolicited testimonial: The guys I talked to at both companies above were very patient and courteous -- I got the distinct impression that they WANTED to help me. Hats off to them.

Guys at this website: Hats off to you too.

Thanks

Gear Shift Dampener is what the gentleman at fordpartsonline called it, the name fits. (the important part is that he gave me a part number) It is a small white plastic (looks like hard nylon) piece and it fits over the rail (as in single rail) inside the shift tower (or turret). The forks on your shifter fit over the plastic piece. Mine was broken (found the pieces inside the shift tower). It cushions the connection between the lever and rail. Since part of it is between the gear shift and the part of the rail it pushes against, it probably also contributes to how far you move your gears. May have been part of my problem, as trans kept popping out of second gear.

Real name is Bushing, Gear Shifter I think. Which is why I needed the guy at Green Sales to describe it to me -- 'cause it sure doesn't look like a bushing. But I guess a bushing is a bushing regardless of what shape it is in.

I think mine was double sloppy. Front to back because the dampener was broken. Left to right because one of the sides of the dampener was also broken, but also because the little spring on the outside of the transmission that pulls the shifter to the right was broken.

Funny this is (not funny like ha ha!) is that once I got my trans out, I found worn parts in my clutch fork, the clutch fork pivot point, the throw out bearing, the input shaft bearing retainer (over which the throwout bearing rides to stay straight), my flywheel, then my starter drive. Whewww!! I'm gonna quit looking so closely!!:-)

Good thing engine is in good shape and my boys are away at college so I have something to drive while truck is laid up.
