I have a 98 f150 4.6 with 235000km and a bad bottom end (w code) . I also have a wrecked 98 Grand marquis with a 4.6 and 80000km. My question is are they the same block, heads, water pump ,etc I know the obvious will have to be changed the intake, oil pan and sensors. I dont know the vin number as it is stored an hour away ill see it on the weekend. I think its the romeo as well but if it is the windsor whats diffrent externally?
Thanks
A couple things to check that I can think of are is there a knock sensor in the valley under the intake? Check both engines.
Also see if the coolant temperature sensor locatiosn are the same near the front of the driver's side head by the intake manifold.
Thanks I will be doing a side by side comparsion on the weekend i will check those things. It is a romeo. So if the vin # (W) is the same they should be the same right??
ok, so is romeo any different? i understand windsor and cleveland you know from older 351 days but the romeo i dont' know about, what exactly is different as far as specifications and dimensions go
The 5.4 and V-10 are both Windsors.
In the 4.6, the Windsor is supposedly a bit stronger, bit thicker castings etc.
To look at them it's very hard to see any differences.
Both are good engines.
ok, and when looking at the VIN # where do i look to see if it is a ROMEO or a WINDSOR, or does it say it somewhere else on the truck? tag's on door or engine bay maybe?
The 8th digit in the trucks VIN will either be a 6 meaning it's a Windsor or a W meaning it's a Romeo.
Yes you'd think that a W would be a Windsor but I guess that would have been too easy
