So I was stuck pretty good, put it in 4wheel low for the first time since I've had the truck. I was still stuck. I put it back in 4wheel high, the low range light went off. It was in park during this time. Then I put it in drive, and heard a nice big pop. I finally got out, but no four wheel low anymore. I figure I broke it, thats common sense, but what should I look at under the truck. Should I jsut wash it off and take it striaght to shop? Will this mess up anything else?
The right way to shift it is:
Put it in 4wd high (you can be moving if you want)
then stop, put it in neutral
then turn it to low
then put it back in drive.
The bad thing is to be moving while trying to put it in low.
I wasnt moving when I put it four wheel low. Sorry if the post was misleading, but i solved the problem. Park and neutral have the same effect do they not? But back to the solution, a small bush. haha yes a small bush. I went up under there to check it out. And there was a small bush strategicly placed over the front axle up near the vaccum lines and all that. Removed it and it poped into 4w low. Dont ask me how, I'm just happy it's fixed.
so it dont scare you again this is the proper 4 lo steps:
shift into 4 hi and then at a complete stop put the truck in NETURAL and shift to 4 lo and when your done with your 4 lo stop and put it in netural and shift back to 4 hi and put it in reverse and go in reverse for about 5 to 10 feet that will disengage your transfer case. if that confuses you its in your owners manual also.
