Should I wait?

Hello, Ive made the decision to purchase my first Ford, an F-150 Lariat. The only thing holding me up is the problems I have been reading about them after the redesign, most notably some sort of vibration problem. Has this problem been solved for the 05's? Im wondering if I should hold out for the 06's but the incentives right now on the 05's are really tempting. Anyone aware of any other major common problems with the 05's that I should know about? Thanks for any help.

Thumbs up 4 week old King Ranch F150 --- all good.

4 week old King Ranch F150 --- all good. Only had one issue with the audiophile radio combo cd changer not working correctly, replaced under warranty not a big deal. I luv my new truck, I learned my lesson a while ago to never buy the first year of any model no matter how badly I wanted it, hence I think an 05 is a good bet. Happy trucking.

Thumbs up

i have a 04 lariat screw and i love it . if u really think about it the number of problems that u read about on here are not really a good reprensation of these trucks 20-30 trucks that u read about are not reall that good of a cross ref when u think of the vast numbers that have been sold that have had no vibration problems or other problems . the other thing to rember is that while no one wants to have any problems with there vehicles they are still made by people and u are going to have some problems.how many times have u heard don't buy a vehicle made on friday or monday??? so if u want one go get it I've been lucky in that i have a dealership that i deal with that has taken care of any small problem i might have . your best bet is talk to some ppl that have them and what they think of the dealership they got it from that is the best indicator because most of the ppl that i hear that are really irriated are really sick of dealing wtih there dealer because they try to shoot them a load of crap

It is my opinion that all 04's and 05's have some sort of vibration. (it's just most people dont know what to look for) In fact, this driveline vibration (in ford and dodge)has been around as far back as 1999. (my 01 lxt had it) During my DSB ordeal I drove 6 differant 04 and 3, 05 models, and every one had vibe's, some were terrible and others were just barely noticable. And yes even the 05 Lariat I eventually chose has the driveline shudder, when cold. I have taught myself to drive through it.

What I've always said is just to test drive the truck YOU WANT and see how it feels. I've said it again and again, a lot of dealerships allow you to take the truck overnight to see how it feels. My 4.6L SCAB XLT has 10,500 miles, no problems and the ride is extremely smooth. No vibrations, rebounce, nibble or anything like that.

I have had my 04 Lariat for just over 1 year now. After 22,000 KM's, I can say that this has been a trouble free truck. Transam396 is right on, the small amount (10-20) of users with problems does not reflect the majority of satisfied truck owners. I will say that the truck has had some problems repaired, but these were dealt with quickly and properly at the dealer.

1 Rear end shudder (clutch packs replaced)

2 Fan belt squeal (Belt, pulleys and tensioner replaced)

3 Computer reflashed

If I can give any advice Run, Run as fast as you can away from poorly engineered trucks. Experience with F250 / F150 Neither was memorable. My handle says it all for me. As soon as I get my new GMC I will list all the items that were fixed or replaced on my 04 Lariat Screw. Ford has not finished yet replacing and I am taking it to Ford to pass on as much cost to get it right as possible. After all I was told that that what warranty was for. Understand these are not items that I am making up they are legit.
So I say again run run as fast as you can.

thanks for the help everybody, thanks for your honesty (neveragain) I notice you got an 04' since this was the first year of the redesign maybe this is why you have been having so many problems. Did you get yours early in the model year? If you dont mind me asking, what were some of the major issues that youve had with your truck?
