my 1982 F-150 XLT has a headlight problem, i've replaced the dimmer switch, headlight switch and replaced the connectors on the headlights themselves.. i want to know if the headlights themselves are bad? or is it my wiring *oh joy something else to fix * i really need to know because i start my job this coming wensday and i have to drive at night.. any suggestions. Oh btw just in case its important its a 351C.
if they appear to go on and off (instead of a slight flickering) then it could be a short..the head light circuit breaker is designed to give you intermitent lights on for safety reasons.
if it flickers like a blink of the eye..then check for a bad ground wire at each hdlight..
or of course..a bad relay..guess you did that tho...wish i could see your changes here...
can you probe the wiring with a light or vom?
and.. a bad ckt bkr
i'm gonna get a voltmeter and other things together in the morning and check them.. i hope its just a ground so i can reground them and leave it be.. hope its nothing major cuz just today i replaced the timing chain and don't really feel up to tearing it apart again.. i'll let you know what i find
First off, does your truck have an external voltage regulator. Most of the newer models have the regulator made in with the alternator. Have your charging system checked. Then look at replacing the voltage regulator. Found this problem on my 66 Mustang, it kept dying out, and wouldn't restart without a jump. Tightened the wires on the voltage regulator, and all went fine. Eventually I replaced it though.
