Hey all. My wife told me yesterday that on our 1995 E150, she noticed the odometer reading go blank, the turn signals stop, the ABS light on, and one or two other minor things happening. She jiggled the ignition key/module, and they all jumped back on again. I started it last night and couldn't get it to turn off.
Has anyone ever had this happen, and if so, how did you remedy it? A new ignition switch? Any idea on how expensive at a non dealer shop? I'm assuming the odometer is still recording even when blank. Does that sound right?
When I say "I couldn't get it to turn off", I mean I couldn't get it to repeat what it had done for my wife. When I wanted to stop the van, the ignition switch performed just fine.

very, very common problem in Fords and especially in vans. And maybe here's why; too many keys on your key ring. No kidding, I had my switch go out on my 93 Mark III conversion van, same kinds of problems and the keys would just fall out while the switch was on. And if I didn't get it in just the right place when turning it off the switch would stay on and my battery would be dead in the morning. But the tech who replaced the switch said it was a common problem for contractors because they carried so many keys. And most contractors work out of vans, makes sense to me.
Thanks for the input. I couple people told me to try spraying in some contact cleaner, which I may do. Then if it persists, I'll go ahead and replace. It hasn't repeated since that one time though, so I think I'll watch and wait.
