Greywolf, about your gun.
"I qualified with the berretta M-9 as an expert (awards medal, not ribbon)"
could you eleborate on this. what size cartride is it? at what range? ext..
also just curious but how old are you and how did you learn to shoot?
I think that this is interesting. I qualified as "Pro-Marksman" with my .22 it was only at 50yrds. though. (yards no feet)most .22 ranges are only 50 foot. I can throw a bullet and hit the target at 50ft.
I chased the pistol marksman qual in the NAVY for quite a while, and it never seemed to come together. Either security had shot all the ammo, or the range was closed, it rained, etc, etc...
Finally one day, I got a new neighbor -
The MARINES were moving into Miramar Base Housing, and the fella next door was the range master for the base...
He told me to just come on out if I had time...
The M-9, is a Berretta 92-F clone, built under Mil contract. I had heard many things about it in the negative -
That it wasn't as good as an out-of-the-box retail piece, that it wasn't the same as the other Berretta 'mark' weapons, and so on.
I had been introduced to shooting when I was about 8 years old - the first one I fired was a Springfield 30-40
All of us back then had BB-guns, and at the time I qual'd I had a Winchester 30-30, Hawken Black powder .58 Cal, Springfield 1911a1 .45, and a few other regular curiousities, but I had not shot in about a year....
The group I ran through the silloughette was the size of a hardball at various ranges including weak-hand, single hand, standing, and knee braced squat. I think the farthest was about 30 yards.
Could have done better, but the sun was coming over the hills and we were facing east. (I put on my ball-cap to counter THAT)
(Nearly forgot to address)
I was 39 at the time, and the M-9 is a 9mm.
Excellent piece, I plan to get one some day soon.
