I got in the truck tonight to drive home and when I turned the key, the starter solenoid just clicked. The radio and some of the instrument lights flashed as well. Dead battrey, right? That was my first thought. I checked my light switch but it wasn't on. I tried the key once more. "Click" Tried again. "silence". I'm the kind of person that will open the fridge a dozen times even though there isn't anything new in there so I tried again. Nothing happened at first, but then the lights came on and the engine cranked and started. It ran fine all the way home. I guess the true test will be in the morning. I'm going to look through the wiring diags to see if there is a ciruit breaker somewhere in the power flow. Weird.
You most likely have a corroded battery terminal or wire. There is too much resistance in the large wiring to crank the motor, so everything goes dead. But it's not enough to kill the radio and other small loads. You kept trying till finally the bad connection welded itself together and made a better connection. Don't worry, if this is what happened, it will do it again.
I completely agree with franklin, check the lugs on the battery and the connection from the negative side to the frame, also check the starter lug to see if its corroded, good luck
