I just rebuilt the engine in my 1999 F350 and went thru bleeding the oil chambers in the heads to get all the air out. After the air was out the engine started and ran at idle for about 45 sec. to a minute and then went dead. It was like you cut the switch off. Now, the engine just spins, without even a hint of trying to start. I have changed the IPR and the cam position sensor and it still won't start.
I can remove one of the plugs from the heads and hold my finger over the hole while cranking on the engine, there seems to be no oil pressure at all. There is suppose to be about 500psi while starting for the injectors to operate, I think. A friend at the Ford dealer said it had to be the high pressure oil pump. But, it worked fine last week when we pulled the engine and while I was bleeding the air out of the heads it blew one of the plugs about 5 feet as I was removing it after we tried to start it.
I think this could be a real problem and I need some really good HELP!!!!!!
You may have to add oil to the high pressure oil reservoir. Check and see if the level is up. I think it should be about a inch from the top. I've heard of people having to add to it a few times to get the system primed.
Well, I changed the high pressure oil pump today and it still won't start. Still not getting high pressure oil to the injectors. While I had the pump off I checked the suppy hoses to the heads, all the harness connections, and everything else I could think of. Nothing!
