Same Old Story

So i've done alot of searches and read a bunch of posts, and now i'm back to square one. I would love to drop in a 460 with a carb and be done, but i don't think that will be happening. I have my good old 302, but its tired and the truck needs something better. I looks good, now i want it to move good. Thought about the 347 stroker idea, but Kemicalburns post's say i need MAF, and i don't really like the idea of dealing with that after reading into it a bunch. The 302 to 351w seems to be the next logical step, but heres the downside. I already have a 302 HO block and heads in my garage ready to be built, hence the reason i like the stroker idea. So grrrrrrr i say. I'm a pretty competent mechanic and have a garage so time isn't a big deal, nor is weather. The truck has 4.10 gears, and is going to be changed to 4.56s. Combined with 35's the truck should move and once again be fun to drive, esp since summer is coming. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and helpful. P.S. Anyone in the Northeast (CT, RI, NY) lookin for a set of 33's on Eagle 589 contact me. Tires have about 1000 miles on em. I just don't like the way it looks, and want to go back to 35's .....

Maybe you can find a friendly local engine rebuilder to take your 302 block in trade toward a 351w? If your interested in a whole truck my 85 Bronco with 29k on a custom built 351w is up for sale in NY. Good Luck.

I think in your best interest, you might just convert too maf.
It can be done with parts from a boneyard.

if you want a trouble free maf kit go here fordfuelinjection.com. personally you will get better reliability from a 5.8 swap then going the stroker route especially a 347. but its sure kewl to say whats under the hood. i had the same dilema you have now but when it came down to it and the money needed for it the 5.8 swap just made more sense. my junkyard motor had 80k on it compres was 170 across the board. i will easily get another 100k or more out of it and i spent less then a grand on the total swap . bronco is right about doing the junkyard maf but personally i hate electrical stuff and prefer it to be a plug an play situation. but of course money makes the decisions more then we do it seems.
either way good luck, if you have ??'s about the swap just pm or email me i can get you squared away
later

I just did a 5.0 H.O. swap about 8 months ago or so. There are some pics in my gallery. I would just use the 5.0 in your garage and drop it in the truck. There is an endless amount of aftermarket mods you can do to the 302. I had a 90 Bronco with a 351 and my 302 H.O. would run it over. I have 4:10 gears, k&n, and a transgo kit. My truck scoots. I would like to convert to mass air sooner or later but have not got the money or time right now. The only thing that had to be changed with the H.O. swap was the firing order, it is the same as the 351. You don't have to mess with trying to find the right computer or flywheel. Just my opinion.
