I was looking at installing a new filter system for my 2003 SuperCrew with the 5.4. My main concern is to have a system that doesn't suck air from under the hood like the KN full system does. I just feel it should be pulling the cooler outside air.
I was doing some research and came across the True Flow brand of filters. It used the stock "box" to hold a new air filter. Then it has a nicer easy flowing tube system instead of the flex tube. Anyone have any experience with True Flow?
I haven't tried out True Flow, But you can always fab your own air box to direct the outside air to the new filter and intake tube. I have seen some use the OEM airbox but modify it to where the new filter is inside of it.
I have not installed a true flow system, never heard of it honestly. You should go get yourself one of the new airraid systems. It comes complete with filter, intake tube and a redisigned elbow that goes to the throttle body. It will definately let some air in to the stock system. As for most the stock airboxes, take a good look at them and in 99% of the time they actually pull cool air from the fender, not the engine comparrtment. With this new truck I am not going to put the intake on though because I am starting beleive that they cause more harm then they are worth. The manufacturer designed the engine to run on those specs and I think that the change will decrease your engine life in the long run.
From what I've seen on their website, the Airraid is the same thing as the KN filter. Just a cone filter on after the MAF. Not unless their pictures aren't right or they dont' the "new" product listed.
fordpickupman351w, i have a question. why changer anything at all if you feel that the factory did it right first? the most important thing about the intake systems out there is that you clean them more often. i try and clean mine about every other oil change. if i feel it is getting to dirty before the oil change, i clean it then. that keeps out the dirty and flowin at its max.

In response to furrby... Yeah there is a lot of reasons that stepping to the high flow filters may be a good idea. THe biggest thing is performance. The paper filters get clogged but people wait to change them. I blow out my air filter on my mustang every couple weeks. All I was saying is that after a while I think that it might take toll on the engine just because of all the computer technology integrated into the cars. It is just my opinion though...
