400 vs 302???
i have a 1974 torino with the stock 302 and was about to build this engine to be a bit hotter than stock...a friend of mine has a 1978 t-bird with the 400 in it,i can get the car for a little of nothing so i was wondering what the pros and cons of swapping the 302 for the 400 would be,any insight would be greatly appreciated.

400 has the potential for more power, but parts are slim to none. Requires a trans or bellhousing swap. Big Block torque, sooner than a big block, but only slightly heavier than a 351W.
302 has a better aftermarket following, many more 'hop-up' options. Lighter weight. Stroker possibilities include 327, 331, and 347, among others. No need to swap anything, saving more money for the build.
I'm not knocking the 400, but in this instance, the 302 is the better choice. No need to change tranny, or anything else for that matter, it's a bolt in and go proposition.
Ultimately, the decision is yours, but now you have the basics to make a more informed decision.
