What do you think would more likely be the cause of a sluggish (more than usual)5.0 95 F150 4x4, double roller timing chain or distibutor. Motor has 60,000 on it, however distributor has 270,000 (it was from original motor).
Truck is used for way more than its intended purpose. 300 miles a day commute plus pushing the snow in the driveway at night (sometimes 4 hours of plowing a night, I live in Gods country, but even he left). Common sense would be the chain is more than past its service life.
Symptoms: hesistant (struggling) acceleration, note vacuum guage 0 in when accelerating. 10-12 mpg, used to be 17-18. Timing checked after the past 20,000 miles about 9 btdc with spout out Left the timing alone to see total advance with spout in, basically spooling up the motor (watching advance go way past 35 btdc) checking for erractic timing on the downside ie. bad chain.
It was a little erractic as the motor slowed down.
As far the timing chain, simply rotate the balancer back and forth while noticing how long it takes for the dist. to turn the rotor. This will give you a better idea of exactly how much slack is in the chain. Slugish acceleration could be as easy as a partially plugged fuel filter as well as a partially stuck open EGR ! So many things come into play on this problem it's unreal, so a 'lil checking has to be done first.
