Hey guys I just bought a brand new F250 Super Duty about 2 months ago and want to put a rockin' system in it. Problem is absolutely nothing fits under these back seats in the SuperCab (Extended Cab) I have the Lariat 6.0 Diesel with the straight bench seats (standard lariat package). I was wondering if anyone knew of anything to do, besides taking out the back seats, that would help in gettin some subwoofers back there.
Thanks a ton guys,
I'm new by the way if you couldn't tell,
firegod619, when you say behind the seat do you mean under the backseat? or on the floorboard in front of the backseats? and i have the same questions as Jeffery K.... Did you buy a box for the JL audio subs or make your own? How much power are you sending to them?
Actually i have 2 of the new 12" Blaunpunkt Overdrive series subs in my '02 crewcab installed right under the seat. They sound great, take a good amount of power, and arent all that expensive. Other than that you pretty much have to go with 8s or a 10 in any other brand.
There's room behind the CC back seat. On a SC the back seat mounts straight to the wall with almost NO room behind it. I just did my system in my '04 SC, there's some pics in my gallery.
Head and electronic crossover in stock location.
front amp under driver's seat
sub amp under passenger's seat
three changers under back on rear seat, against the back of the cab.
rear amp on back wall of cab
passive crossovers for front components and unilink source selector crammed into open areas in the dash
JL audio stealthbox 10" under center seat on the 40/20/40.
The system sounds good. At 28 years old I'm not as concerned about how it sounds outside the truck as I used to be. The majority of this system came out of my '99 E350 in which I had a component set that could handle more power and also a pair of JL 12"s in a custom box. In the van, the system would get people's attention from quite a ways away. In the SD, it's plenty loud, but it's not going to impress the neighbors.
If I was going to put a BIG stereo in a SD SC I'd do one of two things. First choice would be to remove the rear seats all together. Then you could build a sweet amp rack and have a sub box for three 12"s. You could go smaller of course, but three 12"s would fill the space left by removing the seat pretty well.
If you HAD to have the rear seat, I'd consider building something into a tool box or under a cover in the bed, then porting it into the cab using a rubber gasket between the cab and the bed. That would obviously require major cutting and probably devalue the truck. If you did it that way, save the metal you cut out since a body shop could put it back if you ever wanted to.
If I was gonna build a new system(not using the old equipment from my van) I would do the head in the dash, electronic crossovers in the amps, 4 channel amp under the driver's seat doing 100x4@4 ohms and a 200x1@4 ohms mono block under the passenger's seat for the sub. I would buy the stealthbox again. And I'd deffinitely do an MP3 unit, like a hard drive or something probably behind the rear seat.
Don't forget batteries and dynamat. That's your foundation.
I just thought of something... There's a good amount of room in the SC rear doors. I bet if you were good with fiberglass you could get a 10" sub in each rear door. You'd need a good solid front stage to make up for not having music speakers in the rear, but that could be a pretty trick setup. I'd rebuild the rear door pannels rather than trying to hide a 10" under the stock one.
Guys, he has a S/C, most you are replying about crew cabs. I believe that will make a difference on how much room there is. I too have been looking into this same thing. Seems pretty tight back there in a S/C.
I dont know if your supercab is the same as my 01 sc was
but the rear sear was split like 1\3 and 2\3 or something
so I could fold the 1\3 part up and leave the 2\3 part down
and I put box in the 1\3 part with 1 12"
I have the same problem, just sold my 96 F350 Crew Cab, and i had made
a custom box to fit behind the seats.
Now I have an '05 SuperDuty Lariat with the straight seats.
I'm having a subwoofer box made that will sit behind the front seat
center console, from the floor up above the level of the rear seat and back
to the back of the rear seat. this will allow only 1 12" subwoofer, and sealed midranges speakers, but better than nothing. and it will keep both left and right seats open for passengers. the piece of box that sits on the rear seat will have cup holders built in. i'll post a pic when it's finished.
Hey guys. i had the same problem with finding a sub for my 2004 superduty. I purchased a JL Audio custome made stealth sub-woofer that fits inside the stock center console (Because I have the captain chairs). If you go to the JL Audio web-site, you will see thay have another option for the 40/20/40 bench seat, its a 10" sub that actually fits into the center part of the seat cushin..
Try this web address to view what I am talking about.. I hope this helps.
I went with the Q-logic center console for the extended cab. It matches the interior color perfectly and doesn't even look like a sub box. Has 2 cup holders in it as well. Pics in the gallery.
