CAPTURED!! Baby Copperhead

Hey ya'll. So the other day me and my buddy caught this baby snake in my back yard and stuck him in a container. After showing it off a little I found out it's a baby copperhead . I know I know, I should kill it and dispose of it...oh well, I'm keeping it. So does anyone have any tips/advice on what to feed it or anything else?! I guess mainly the thing is starving, what do I do? How does it get water, etc. Any advice is greatly appreciated and needed!

I guess I forgot to mention, I'm sure it eats small insects and whatever it can find in the woods/yard to eat but seeing as I don't feel like crawling around on my knees on my land. What could I buy for the critter? He's realllly tiny. Maybe a foot long but skinny as a whistle.

Just watch out, baby snakes are way deadlier- they can't control the amount of venom they inject, so they dump it all in.

check out a pet store near you. I've baught bags of crickets n' things to feed to critters, and you won't have to catch 'em yourself. and they'll be able to tell you what else you need to know about it. I'm all for you keepin' it dude that's awesome. but I got 5bucks says the people at the store tell you to bring it to them or let it go, or kill it or something.

You should let it go... copperheads are very dangerous. Snakes are very healthful to the environment and letting it go will keep downt he number of pests in your area... food for thought.

No way

The thing is way too cool to just let free, or to execute for that matter. The only thing I'm real worried about is keeping it away from my other pets. Dogs and cat. It's one bad SOB too!! If you put a stick near him/her it curls up in the air and lunges like a bat out of hell. Almost put myself in a bad situation. Just how dangerous are these bad boys anyways? If I do keep it for a long period of time should I go ahead and invest in something like a snake bite kit, or would a quick trip to the hospital be more appropriate if a bite occurs? Just trying to find out what I'm getting myself into. But once again, all advice is welcome, be it negative or positive, seeing as I'm in a tough situation deciding whether to keep it or not. I guess I'll pull out the digital and snap a couple shots of the thing for ya'll to see. Maybe get some cool strike poses! PETA members close your eyes. Wouldn't it be wild to get a big animal of some sort and watch the snake kick it's butt?! Like maybe a goat or something? Ok PETA people, you can open them now. But anyways back to the point, thanks for the great help so far, keep it coming!

I believe that a copper head is the deadliest (at least one of them) in north america.

Maybe you aren't listening to me...

THIS THING CAN AND WILL KILL YOU!

Keeping a baby copperhead is like keeping a cup of acid on your bathroom sink...

Some Copperhead info.

Listen to Matts72- that thing is not a pet, but shouldn't be destroyed either. Great natural pest control.

I would encourage you to take it somewhere and release it. Do this for the benefit of both yourself and the snake. Snakes such as copperheads, western diamondback rattler, and cottenmouths are hardly pets nor are they something you want in your house.

Having been bitten by a copperhead a few years ago, I would NOT recommend putting yourself in a potentially harmful situation (i.e., keeping a baby copperhead as a pet).

It was NOT a pleasant experience...

Personally, I would kill it...but I guess I'm a little biased

another thing to think about, in a lot of states, these poisionus animals are called exotics, and either against the law to keep, or highly regulated and liscenced, and if you are cought with one, the fine is enormous. a guy down the street was cought when wis exwife got mad at him and called the cops. 1 4 foot gator, 3 pythons, 2,3,and 6 ft, a few pitvipers, and a bunch of poisionus spiders. he is in court fiting the fines now, but it looks like it will cost at least $50,000 in fines, without the lawers fees
