I have a 94 ranger, 3.0 and am wanting to do a custom intake on it. I'm going to get some 3 inch pipe and bend it to fit. only question is how do i setup the MAF sensor? Do I set it up on the end of the piping, is there a way that I can run a set up inside the pipe? This will affect how long i make the pipe, thats why I want to know. Is there anyway that I can dissassemble the MAF sensor so that I get the plug and the sensor to put inside the pipe or would that be a risky move? Not sure what type of pipe i am using, I will be working at a machine shop over the summer with my dad and they bend pipe there mainly, so I am going to be able to use some stainless steel, aluminum, and something else, can't remember, what would be the better one to use? thanks for ya'lls input.
I wouldn't mess with the MAF, you could end up running lean, just mount it between the air filter and the intake tube going to the throttle body. The length of the tube will have little affect on things.
I got to thinking about that today, it would be a better move to leave it alone, i will probably just clean up the MAF so that it looks as good as the tube will look, instead of going shiny to dull to shiny(base of filter). I can mount a bracket on the end of the tube, that won't be any problem. I know the length won't matter, as long as it's solid with no breaks in it, it'll be aight, I'll just have to make sure it's sealed up properly. Any recommendations on what to use to seal the pipe to the MAF?
Most of the aftermarket intakes use a rubber tub with an ID the same as the OD of the pipe, these are similar to the connector used for adapting PVC to copper plumbing pipes.
