Hi,
I'm new to the list so I joined to get advice from people that have more experience than I do.
I have a 1968 Ford 390 truck engine ( measured the stroke) sitting in my 57 Fairlane 500. I run a Borg Warner T85 overdrive transmission with 3.70 gears. The car sat for 12 years before I bought it. When started, it bent 3 push rods and I had to use Liquid Wrench to get the lifters to work on two cylinders. Once that was done it ran fine ( like bat out of H-- ). Now I have one side of the engine that burns oil only after it's warmed up (new valve stem seals also). The compression on all cylinders is 160 lbs. I can't see oil burning when I go through the gears, only after it's idled for awhile. When I stop for a light there is always a cloud of smoke when I take off. What's wrong with my engine. Thanks
There is no noise coming from the engine. It runs beautiful. Idles great, runs great. I have no idea how many miles are on the engine. It's had new exhaust gaskets and the engine looks as it's been repainted though. Thanks
Sounds like worn guides, bad valve seals. With a good idle the intakes not suspect. You getting crankcase vacuum at idle, pvc valve working? Better than a good mystery book to solve, ya think!
