Not "following" you....You want to hard mount the plug onto the "thing" under the truck? IMO, I think that during the winter/colder months that the plug would just "hang" through the bumper/grill and store/hide it with a quick release zip tie when not in use???? EDIT: Look in 7.3L PSD under the title "Looking for a block heater connector/bracket". This may steer you in the right direction.
I mounted a marinco block heater plug on my truck. Very nice finish for the truck. No cords hanging out and you can plug, unplug with one hand. I bought the Marinco Plug from a boating magazine. It tells you what size hole to drill, so I bought a door handle drill bit that size. I mounted the plug next to the passenger side tow hook as I felt it was more protected than the lower air dam. However you do have to drill into metal that way. When I finished my drilling I used the same bit to do the zoodad mod. Works great. Highly recommended.
Yeah, I like it alot esp. when its 10° out and the end of the extension cord dosen't want to come unplugged and your fightin with it. This thing makes it easy. 1 handed operation..
DshiftFF,
Hey thanks man. I'm a gonna put one of these dudes in my 05. Great idea! I think I will try to come up with a bracket to support the plug as I really don't want to drill a hole in my nice new bumper. Possibly a bracket below and tucked under the bumper.
Oh by the way. Your screen name, "D shift Firefighter" maybe? Just had to ask.
Dshift, your install tips helped me accept drilling my front end.
Oh yeah, regarding the screen name, I guess it takes one to know one.
Thanks for the tip. I have been struggling with my cord all winter. It kinda spooks me to get a good jult while standing in a bunch of wet snow. I have heard stories.
How difficult was it to drill that hole in the bumper? I like your install better than the one in air dam (I guess that's the name of the 'thing' under the bumber that I referred to).
