I'm having trouble installing new windshield gasket on a 1964 ford truck. I've tried the rope method and not having any luck, the curvature of the windshield makes it next to impossibe to line up correctly .I would appreciate any advice .
The rope method surely works. I don't know how you are trying to do it, because I didn't see you.
IMHO you will need two people, one inside and one out. With the glass in the gasket, and the rope in place crossing at the bottom, place it in the cab. Start pulling the rope up one side and have the outside helper push it in place, first one side and then the other. Once both sides have made connection at the top corner, start pulling the rope slowly across the top until the rope is out and the glass is in.
3/16"-1/4" woven rope like the kind used in old sash cords was what the installer used to put mine in.
It also doesn't hurt to grease the seal and/or cord slightly to help it slide in place. I used vasoline but I'm sure other lubricants would work as well.
50/50 mix of soap in a windex bottle works well for lube. Spray lots of that stuff on the gasket. If you have the stainless trim put that on before you install the windshield in the truck. After that its like John said.
Thanks alot for the help, i,m gonna try again later today with two helpers,My trouble is I cant get windshield pushed in far enough,On 64-f-100 the bottom corners of windshield are deepy curved and just a pita to get lined up and pushed in,Put winshield in before but never had this much trouble, again THANKS
