Gvw

Would anyone know where I can find the GVW of a '56 F-800 Big Job? It is a single rear axle, two-speed rear, and a 5th wheel with a 144" wheel base. I have a shop manual but can't seem to find the GVW's anywhere.

Well, your 56 F-800 is listed with a maximum GVW of 24,000 lbs and a maximum GCW of 48,000 lbs. The chart doesn't say what GVW and GCW mean precisely. The front axle is rated at 7,000 lbs capacity and the rear axle at 18,000 lbs. That would fit a GVW of 24,000 lbs with 1,000 lbs of shared axle capacity to spare.

Available wheelbases on that puppy were 132", 144", 156", 175", and 192".

I can't imagine what the maximum GCW number of 48,000 lbs is. Gross crush weight? Anybody else have any ideas?

GCW is Gross Combined Weight. Truck and load and trailer and load. My '56 F600 has the tag on the door post listing it as 16,000 GVW. I have rolled across the gravel yard scales at over 22,000 a time or two. Just because she will do it, doesn't mean she should.

Thanks for that info....I think that I am confused though. I thought that the GVW was the same as total vehicle weight (for towing or trailering purposes). Is this the case?
