Hi there. I am running a 2001 F-350 Crew Cab with a 7.3L Diesel. It has an auto tranny and I recently purchased a Diablosport Predator and love it. My question is I set the shift firmness all the way up but it still doesn't shift quick enough for me. Is it better to install a Diablosport power valve to manually control the line pressure in the tranny? If I do put a shift valve does the medium manual valve shift like the medium on the programmer? Will firm shift like the hard setting on the programmer? Also will this stock tranny hold up to a 150 HP increase and a 250 Ft/Lbs increase over stock (for future mods)?
I don't mind spending the money for a good torque convertor (which I know is part of my slow shifting, slow lockup problem) if I know the tranny will handle it. But why spend upwards of $1000 for a torque convertor if you will have to replaced it anyway when the tranny explodes.
The Predator firms the shifts electronically. A valve/spring kit will firm the shifts hydraulically which is better. If you put a valve kit in, you probably won't need the Predator to control the line pressure.
As far as the stock tranny holding an additional 150 hp... well you'll run into problems eventually. It will depend on how hard you drive it and how often you run the race program. With higher hp chips/tuners you'll get shift flairs on hard acceleration (some custom tunes can help with that). Plus with more hp, you're tranny will run hotter. Watch your tranny temps carefully.
If you do plan on heavy mods, it's best to at least get a new torque converter. I think there are several forum members here with a beefed up TC with stock tranny internals handling higher hp motors pretty well.
