Does it smell of diesel fuel or diesel exhaust? If fuel then try wiping down int. sufaces (steering wheel, gear shifter, headlight switch, seats if vinyl, door panels) with listerine. If that doesn't work air it out (doors-breezy day) as often as you can (pretty obvious, but hey). If still no luck, air it out one day for a while and get someone with a good nose (females are usually better at this it seems) to try and pinpoint it. If it's a seat/carpet get rid of it-it's trash. Don't forget to check the seatbelt.
I went thru this recently after lending my car to a buddy. He was nice enough to fill it up-bare handed I assume (not nice enough to wash his hands before getting back in though) After the listerine and a night with the windows cracked it cleared up. Good luck.
You need to check the Fuel filter for leaks not a normal problem but someone may have changed the filter and left the old seal on or not put the new one on, and the Fuel bowl drain, make sure it"s not slightly open.
Never use gloves or mitts to fuel been driving Diesels for 9 years and never had a Fuel smell in truck. But you can get it on you shoes around truck stops so watch out for that.
The only time I've ever smelled fuel in the cab was a bad fuel filter problem!! Had someome else install the thing abd they left the old seal in and installed the new one. Leaked all over heck and gone!! After I fixed it the smell went away after a few days!!

Easy mistake.....
Watch where you step. Often times near diesel pumps there will be spillage on the ground. It doesn't evaporate like gasoline does. I stepped in some when I got out to fuel. Got back in, rolled the windows down and everything. Then I finally realized, oh geez! Dummy, you stepped in it!!
