I pulled the old tires and the housing that goes around the brakes off. Forgot what it called .. seriously.
Noticed a slight wobble in the thingy.. dunno whats its called either .. has the 5 studs on it for the tire and .. "Housing thingy" to mount on.
Is this wobble normal movement ? or is it a bad sign ? I'm thinking a bad sign.
Truck sat for around 2 years. never moved. pulled tires and drum thingy and theres a wobble in the stud mo' bobber when I put it in drive on jack stands. so uh, here I am. Wondering if its normal or bad.. please dont say bad.
The brake housing on front disc brakes is a caliper. Rear drum brakes are contained inside a drum. In any case, any wobble should be considered bad. It could indicate bad bearings (cheap repair). It wouldn't hurt to have the bearings repacked or replaced. A wobble in the rear end could be a more expensive axle repair though. Someone else may have to step in a help there. I know zip about rear axles. Good luck.
i'm really sorry to keep pestering you guys, dont know what else to do. My chilton doesnt really diagnose my problem and i'm by no means a master mechanic.
Heres whats going on, if a go above 1500 rpms in my truck it bangs around like crazy.
I put her up on jack stands and found out it is not a LS rear. when I put it in drive both wheels start to spin and the outer one slows down(As expected) when the outer wheel stops spinning and the other is still going there is this awful "Clank clank clank" sound. when I start moving the outer wheel with the one thats already rotating I hear a sort of grinding rumble sound.
Alot of the clanking seems ot be comming from right where the wheel is. theres a bit of up/down play to(I cant lift tire a bit and drop it back down) not alot but some.
I'm thinking bearings like 92EB said.
Oh, and when I hit the brakes theres is another Awful grinding vibration rumble sound.
Brake look about shot, but thought i'd throw that in to help.
Any more help would be greatly appriciated.
Many many thanks, chris.
Dude..... sounds like you've got problems. The "clank, clank, clank" sounds like axle problems to me. Have you checked the fluid levels in the differential yet? Wouldn't hurt to remove the differential cover and have a look-see.
The grinding when you hit the brakes sounds like bad brake pads. Probably a messed up drum too. That's probably a separate issue from the movement in the wheels.
Why did the truck setup for 2 years? What year is your Bronco?
just from reading your posts I have one suggestion, Take your time, Ask LOTS of questions, read old post threads, go thru the chiltons about brakes, rear differentials, axles, UJOINTS, bearings and make sure you understand part of it before you dig in, that way your new experience in the field won't be filled with as many nightmares. working on your own rig can be fun if done right but the opposite can also apply
