After the last offroad trip my fan starting squeaking really bad. I figure I got some water up there and it took out some of the grease since everything else seems to be ok. My question is, is there a grease fitting for the fan. 1997 f150 4.6L XLT 4x4. If there is what type of grease to use?
Where is the idler pulley located? Is it the one that puts tension on the belt? I dont think It's the clutch, the fan spins pretty freely when the engine is off.
I dont know if this helps, but the squeak continues after I shut off the engine, for a few seconds. It continues until the blades of the fan stop moving.
We'll its now the 3rd day in the shop and they cant find the problem. My friend owns the place and I've been talking to him as this thing progressed. The problem is that there are only those first few minutes to find the problem, before the engine heats up. Once it is warm the noise is very minimal but on start up it sounds very harsh. Took off belt, checked all the pulleys and all seems fine. Clutch doesnt seem to be a problem, I'm at a loss here, and ideas.
I was thinking about taking in to the dealership, but chances are they might not be able to find it either. I figure their solution will be replace parts until the noise stops.
what kind of condition is your belt in in some cases i've seen the belt actually sound like a rod knock, also if your fan blades are still spining after the truck has been shut off you fan clutch is shot and definatley needs replacment. because it is not colling the engine as efficently as it could be. also there is no grese inside them it's fluid nothing you can add to or change though
