Hello. I flushed the radiator in my wifes 96 3.0 last month. Since then the temp guage has been slow to work. On short trips of half an hour or less it doesnt work at all. After its been driven 45 minutes or so it comes up and works fine. If you stop and cut the engine off, even for a minute, it takes 30 or 40 minutes to start working again. Does any body have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.
You didn't get all the air out. What you need to do is to open up the radiator cap when the engine is cold, fill it to about 2" below the neck and run the engine with the heater on full blast.
Keep running the engine until it warms up, then keep filling in the water to keep it at the same level. Make sure you run it at about 2000 RPM for at least 2 minutes at a time. You may have to do this for a long time to purge all the air.
