Ahh!! On the last offroad trip i got some water sray up all around the fan and all that. Now it sqeeks like the devil, its horrible!! Its really bad when I start it up. Could it still be the fan when I'm starting up??. It sounds like its coming from the fan when its running. Will just regreasing fix this?? I hope all i need is grease. If grease should fix where to put, how? Anyone?
if the clutch has a grease fitting , then thats a new one on me. I have not seen one with a grease fitting yet. In the past as for as checking the clutch for the fan , usually i could listen to the fans operating sounds and tell the difference as for if it was stuck on or not kicking in at all. It will make a noise when it gets to a certain tempature inside the engine compartment , kinda like the woshing or higher speed airflow noise it makes when it kicks in. If its doing this constantly its stuck on, and if its not doing it at all, then its waisted. Its purpose is to kick the fan spinds higher, therefore pulling more air n from the raidiator when your engine temp goes up above normal. Its not a very expensive part. It will either sit in the center of the fan on the front side or rear of it, i believe its the front for ford, but not sure on this. Its round in sixe and usaully has alot of ribs on it. Anywayz, since you checked your tension, and that was good, then about the only other thing i can think of is the fan clutch, or water pump bearings. Its gonna kinda be hard to tell exactly which one it is due to not hearing the noise for myself, but keep an eye on your engine tempartue guage. If it begins to go above normal form what it has in the past, then ide start with replacing the clutch. If this does not take care of the issue, then water pump would be my next check. Hope this helps out some
code_red--thanks for the info. My water pump makes noise for a little while after I shut the engine off. I was told this was normal though, just checking in case.
We'll its now the 3rd day in the shop and they cant find the problem. My friend owns the place and I've been talking to him as this thing progressed. The problem is that there are only those first few minutes to find the problem, before the engine heats up. Once it is warm the noise is very minimal but on start up it sounds very harsh. Took off belt, checked all the pulleys and all seems fine. Clutch doesnt seem to be a problem, I'm at a loss here, and ideas.
I was thinking about taking in to the dealership, but chances are they might not be able to find it either. I figure their solution will be replace parts until the noise stops.
