I just put the top of the line Deflecta-Shield hood protector ( with the lip on the top) on my 93 and now the wipers don't work properly and the washer won't work at all at speed. It's agood thing I got it for a song ($29.95 cdn) at a surplus store. I also got a D.S. visor too for the same price but have yet to install it. Maybe it will correct the wiper problem. SR.
your bug deflector affects your wiper blades? why is that? i have a "Profile" guard on mine. it's the kind tha contours to the truck and has the little lip on the top. i haven't had a problem at all with my wipers from it. (at least, no problems that were there before)
LAST EDITED ON 17-Mar-01 AT 03:38 AM (EST)[p]A bug shield shouldn't effect your wipers, but you will have to re-aim your washer fluid nozzles using a small pin or paper clip.
Wenger, My bug shield prevents my windshield washer from working at anything over 20 mph. I guess they not only keep bugs from hitting your windshield but your washer fluid too. I have often thought of retrofitting my wipers with the setup like on my wifes Eagle Vision. It has the nozzles mounted on the wipers so it works well at any speed.

If your truck is black, JCWhitney sells a wiper cowl cover that is black, covers up to the top of where the wipers sit at rest, that may help get the airflow around the wiper nozzles for you?
I think I know what your saying, My truck will spray fluid all over the place except where I want it. I seriously doubt it would be much different even without a deflector.
I personally haven't used my windshield washer at any speed other than stopped, I tried it on the highway once but nothing sprayed out...not really too big a deal to me, I wash my truck once a week.
it is not the problem with the fluid i am having (as i wash my truck once a week also) but my wipers pull away from the windshield, i replaced both transmissions and wiper arms (@ $40) and yet the same problem. my wipers skip, jump, make all kinds of noise. but when i take my deflector off, everything is ok. i orderd a "hood shield" (bug deflector without the upturn). my guess is this will fix the aerodynamic problem with my wipers.
The aerodynamics are being disrupted by the lip on top of the bug deflector. On my truck the rain and snow actually travel forward on the hood instead of back. If this is the case then the wind is traveling down the windshield instead of up and causes the wipers to skip and chatter. My deflectashield has the lip on it and I think I am going to cut it off to cure the problem. The other thing that I found is the rocks kicked up by other vehicles get pulled down onto the windshield instead of being blown over. Ever since I put it on the rock dings are down near the bottom of the windshield instead of up near the top. I also have a visor to install and was wondering if any one has had any problems with them. Thanks, SR.
