Tripmeter

I have an 05 F250 XLT with the "mini" message center. In normal operation, only the odometer shows - I have to press the reset button to get the tripmeter to display. When I restart the engine, the display is back to odometer only. Is this standard, and can it be changed?

Yno,
You should be able to use the info button to scroll through the different displays like miles to empty, hours, trip, etc. One you settle on what display you want it should stay that way until you use the info button to change it.

TripMeter (Anyone got any response?)

I also have wondered about the tripmeter having to be reset each time you start the truck must be a way to make it stay on..Have been watching this thread for days for a response and hoping someone would have some idea.

ANYONE ANY IDEAS!

Are you pressing & holding the reset button, or lightly pushing it momentarily?

On my '04, you push it momentarily to scroll from one to the other, and it stays until changed again. If I push and hold, it resets the trip back to zero.

The problem isn't resetting the tripmeter..it's making the tripmeter stay on all the time and not go back to just the Odometer..

So, to make sure I understand you....you start the truck and it is in the odometer setting. You push the setting to trip. Let's say it reads 150 miles. You drive some, and before you turn the truck off, it now reads 225 miles. You turn the truck off. When you start the truck back up, it is now in odometer setting. You push to put it into trip, and it reads 225 miles. Is this correct?

Yes that is correct..but if you just start truck and set it for tripmeter then turn off truck and start back up it stays on the tripmeter seems to take some time for it to go back to just odometer..really weird..

It sounds like you have some sort of power short where the display is losing its power to hold memory...maybe a RAM type defect.

I recomend taking it in to get fixed. It should not do this, and the likelyhood of something else electrical going wrong is possible.

My 2005 XLT does the same thing. The manual is pretty vague. Both the trip and engine hrs will return to odometer after the truck has been shut off for a period. So if someone figures out how to keep it please post.
