I've read before about a particular synthetic fluid that was recommended in manuals. Does anyone know exactly which one it was? I have a 1999 F150 4x4 4.6 5sp. (M5OD) I want to change to synthetic fluid and want to put the best in it.
not sure what synthetic, but my owners manuel reccomends mercon V for this transmission. i believe ive seen a few topics in the oil and lube forum, you may want to try doing a search there.

with the amount mine leaks i have been able to try many different brands. i found that synthetic AAMCO's mercon V feels the best so far. cheap too. im not fixing my leaks because im saving for a rebuild.
I've heard that mercon v is synthetic but don't hold me to that. In my 95 since it leaks I just put in valvoline mercon atf fluid cause it's cheap. I've read some posts on here about using redline mtl fluid or even honda's manual transmission fluid. I have a civic w/ a 5 speed and I've heard a lot of reccomendations on using the synchromesh fluid or the redline mtl. Right now I have the pennzoil synchromesh in that. Anyways I got to thinking though that they're reccomending the same fluid's as the car takes so why can't I use the synchromesh in the truck. Soon as I get my leaks fixed I might try that instead.
