Camshaft Position Sensor circuit Malfunction

Well,my check engine light just went on and i got a reading done and it said that it was the Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit. The ford dealer wants $350 just in labor to replace the part. But the sensor is only $30 at autozone, so i kinda want to do it myself. Has anyone had this problem before? Has anyone replaced this sensor before? How hard was it to do?

Gimme some time - I'll try and check my Haynes manual to see.
I don't know the answer right off.

According to my Haynes manual, the cam position sensor is located where the distributor used to be. Replacement of the sensor alone requires removing two hex head screws, removing the old sensor, installing the new sensor, and replacing the two screws. In other words, not much to it.
If the internal synchronizer is bad, replacement is much more involved.

Hope this helps.

the pick up sensor is inside the distributor which does the same job as crankshaft position sensor on other vehicles if its bad your tachometer will not move when cranking and no signal will be sent to map sensor or back to computer the thing hanging on the outside of distributor is not a sensor but a brain of sorts that goes bad often it will crank maybe but won't fire its a ignition module
