Stock shackles are fine when flipped unless you plan to haul heavy loads. They don't bend THAT easy. You don't need a trac bar for a rear axle on leaf springs.
Yeah it takes a good bit to bend the stock shackles, after all the new dodges use this design, granted they are 3/16 instead of 1/4, but they still use it.
What's a heavy load. I probably have 600 lbs of trash in the bed right now Of course, I could throw it out, but why? That takes more work than just leaving it. Plus, people wonder what I am doing with it. "hey, why do you have a chevy front leaf spring?" It makes great conversation starter. I would put it on the coffee table, but my wife won't let me
heavy load = bed full of firewood, pulling a loaded trailer, 700lbs of trash in the bed, etc, etc, etc! lol.... its a lot of common sense but i would be nervous to pull anything heavier than a small utility trailer!
I haven't put them on yet because people have said the shackles can bend fairly easily........ What are the odds of bending them?
Well, thats the thing, are you talking about carrying huge loads or just wheeling? I used the f350 version and haven't managed to tweak mine wheeling and thats about the best endoresement you can get. About the biggest load I carry in the rear is 800# though.
the f-150-f-350 all used the sem 1/8shackle from 73-97(3 inchrears)
i know if you go to ford and get a set of shckles for a 99 and up f-350 cab an chssies, an f-450 or an f-550, they are less than 50 bucks for a brand new set. I think they are 1/4 or 3/16
i think ive said this a million times, so ill just shutup
How could you have said that a million times? You only have a post count of 89.
Its still good to be mentioned. Like I said, I have the heavier versions so I just went out to measure them and they measure 1/4 thick. Only weird thing is that I grabbed these off an f-350 but they're the heavier units. Maybe some packages came with the stouter ones, who knows? Point is, like you said, if peeps are worried about them they get pick up or build heavier units.
