400 Oil Dipstick Length
Anyone know the correct length for the oil dipstick for a 400?? Put my engine back to gether, but it seems that even with the dipstick fully seated, only the tip of the dipstick touches the oil. Yes the oil is full, and it is the stock oil pan.

The dipstick on my original '78 400 is 24 7/8" from the tip of the dipstick to the cap that fits over the top of the dipstick tube. The ford part number on the dipstick is D7TE-6750 BA. One thing you might check is the nut that threads into the block for the dipstick tube. If the tube is not threaded completely into the block, then the dipstick will read improperly.
