Hi
I have a 1985 f-150 with a 300, 4-speed granny tranny, 9" rear with a posi and 3.50s.
I just recently did a 4x4 conversion on this truck.
On the rear i opted to keep the original 3.5" wide leaf springs (the 4x4s have 4" wide). The bottom spring is twisting sideways of the other springs. It is doing this because the u-bolts are 4" apart and dont hold it anymore on the sides.
I made some clamps for them today to keep them straight but they squeezed all the leafs together and stiffined them up considerably.
Is this ok? Any other suggestions?
Thanks
BIG PAT
Forgot to mention I had to pull out my dads brand new 3/4 ton chevy 4x4 truck the other day. Ha Ha
somethin else, too...i doubt that your truck came stock w/ the 9"....ford quit the 9 inch for the most part, around 1983, from what i've been told, and went to the 8.8" rear...you're certain yours is a 9"?? 8.8" has a rear pan on the differential...9" don't...
