Well, my dad bought an 81 F100 short step a few weeks ago. It came with a redheaded stepchild - 84 F150 LWB fleet. Now, the 81 is in decent shape physically, but didn't run, and the 84 is in pi$$ poor shape physically, and didn't run because it didn't have a starter. So, I go home last saturday, and spend 30 minutes on the 84 - put in a starter, and drop the battery from my 67 C10 into the F150. dump some gas down the carb, and it fires up on the second crank. I have probably $800 into that truck, including title, registration and insurance, and I've driven it 1000 miles so far.
now, dad's 81...the one he actually PAID for, I've spent over 20 hours working under the hood of that thing, rebuilt the ignition system, checked timing, rebuilt the carb twice, checked the entire thing for vacuum leaks, and it STILL does not want to run right. argh!
anyway, I just had to laugh, because he called the 84 such a turd, yet it's his that won't run. lmao
every one gets an opportunity to gloat like that once in a while and by god take it. yesterday a good friend of mine and also a chevy fan rang my phone. his 95 1500 seems to have thrown a rod. the truck has 150000 miles and 48000 on the rebuilt motor. he was making fun of my ford a couple weeks ago cause i had to do some front end work and change the heater core and little things like that. he kept saying that i should have bought a chevy than i could be spending my money and time drinking beer and hanging out and i just told him that his day would come. well, turns out i had my time to gloat last night when he called me and i got the chance to point out that my f150 had 175000 original miles and has never left me anywhere, much less 200 miles from home.

well, my grandma heard me talking about how much I liked this 84. She's a big ford freak. I told her that my chevy sat for 8 years, I put an ignition system in it and some new gas and it fired up just like the ford. She shut up after that.
granted though, I do really like this ford, I've never had to crank it more than 4 times before starting it, and it runs almost like it's fuel injected. Just wish the 300 had some more nuts...
