Rebuild engine or a used one?

Hi,
my 92 explorer has 370,000 miles on the original engine, and it is well past the time to do something about it. The question I have is what to do about it. Should I rebuild the engine or put in a used or even a new one. There is nothing wrong with the current engine (apart from the high mileage), but the number five cylinder is starting to leak oil ( I think that the piston rings are giving out). There is good oil pressure still, it starts every time, and it has never broken down (apart from the alternator and starter a couple of years ago). My mechanic says to just get rid of it but I love that truck too much. Like I said it has never broken down or left me stranded for any of the 370000 miles, and I bought it brand new. So should I rebuild or replace? Thanks for the advice.

In my opinion I would rebuild it. You already know your history so you know what you got. If you buy one you don't know what you are getting. Just my opinion.

What kind of shape is the trans in? Hate to see you do a motor and have the trans go out, which is one of the early model Explorers weak points.
