fuel gage problem

fuel gage problem

I have a '01 F350 super duty PSD and my fuel gage always reads full when the key is on. The dealer sez that they would have to do a diagonistic to find the problem (would not guess). Anyway that costs and I don't want to spend any more than I have to. The warrenty has expired due to miles. I'll be doing the work my self. Any ideas as to the problem?

Sounds like the gauge may have a short in it. I think they work off of resistance. I'd check the wiring from the gauge wit a meter to see if is shorted or grounded.
