A/C Help
Does anyone have a fix for this problem. 92 F-150 with a/c. Here is the problem for some unknown reason my a/c will quit blowing from the dash vents and begin blowing from the defroster vent on top of dash. This also happens if I run the vent setting for fresh air. ANy ideas?

llbcd, Little difficult to diagonse without checking the vehicle, but it sounds like a vacuum leak at the mode control switch or source, the mode control system will defualt to defrost in the event of a low vacuum level. do you get the same symptom if you are under load up a big hill?. Let me know

Sounds like a loose vacuum line connector / fualty control unit or broken vacuum line, remove the heater control bezel and the screws that hold in the heater control unit, try wiggling the hoses, control ***** and vacuum line connectors to agrivate the problem. If no luck there do the same to the vacuum supply line and related vacuum motor/connectors.

There is small diameter white plastic vacuum tubing under the hood that runs to the vacuum motor at the blower housing (passenger side under the hood). On my '93, after a few minutes driving on max, the air flow would be diverted to defrost and not come back to the dash registers. When I looked under the hood, I noticed the above mentioned tubing had deteriorated and was disintegrating. I cut out the damaged section and slipped a piece of rubber vacuum hose over the remaining ends of the plastic. Been working fine since. Hope this helps.
