I have a '90 E-150 5.0L Mark III conversion. I love this van, but I need to replace the carpet and can't afford to pay someone to do it. The carpet appears to have gone in before the walls, so I must pull the walls away to remove the old and install the new carpet. Has anyone done this on a Mark III from that year? Are the walls just clipped in with the kind of clips on a door panel? Can anyone recommend other pages with discussions about conversion van repair?
Thanks, Brian
I'm afraid I can't help with your question. But I'd like to ask you one. I have an '89 E-150 with a Starcraft conversion. I'm very impressed with how well the conversion has stood the test of time, although I,too, could use some new carpet.
I'm thinking of buying a new or possibly a used conversion van and wanted to know what you thought about Mark III conversions. Is yours holding up well? Are the walls and cieling in good shape? how about the "buttons"? Anything coming loose or falling off? I've heard some horror stories about conversions that "fall apart" in under 5 years. I'd appreciate any comments you have on Mark III or any other conversions you know about.
I have a '94 Mark III High-top Conversion van. It has the 4.9-6 with a C-6 transmission. It's pretty much loaded with stuff like TV and VCP, air, cruise and stuff.
I bought it about 6 months ago from the original owner with 65,000 miles on it. This is my first conversion van, although I've had Club Wagons in the past.
It's pretty much my daily driver. I went to Florida from MD recently. There are NO rattles or strange noises. I'm very satisfied with the Mark lll quality. All the wood trim is stable and not falling apart.
The only Micky-Mouse thing I can find on the van is, they put some cheap plastic fold-down recessed clothes hangers in the overhead inside the back door. They were broken when I got the van. I stopped by the factory store in Ocala and bought new cheap plastic replacement hangers for $4.95 each.
All in all, I'm impressed with the Mark III.

B. Shober

Thanks for the info. I drive to Florida from New York at least once a year. It's good to know there is a factory store in Ocala.
That's another plus for Mark III conversion vans. They seem to be fairly common in my area.
The carpet in a van can be a pain to replace but it is not impossible. I found it best to remove as many internal things as i could to get as much clear room to work as possible. Areas that appeared to be too much trouble to remove i simply cut the carpet along the edges and install a higher quality plush that would cover any remaining "fuzzies". I tried both glue down and stretch-in installations and personally i feel the easiest result comes from "double-sticking" or glueing pad to floor and carpet to pad. However the best looking result came from glueing in tack strip and stretching the carpet in over the padding. Best of Luck.
We E-Serias guys gotta stick together. Not too many of us on these boards! I bought a new (to me) '98 conversion in 2001. It is an E-150 with a rubber mat floor instead of carpet. Not as "rich" but much more practical for those of us that track alot of dirt and only "detail" the truck once a year!
