Does anyone out there have a 300 with headers and dual exhaust? Not sure how this would sound with glass packs. Performance wise I know it would probably be good, but the noise it makes may be annoying if it differs from a V-8 much.
Mike; to prevent each pipe sounding like a cobby 3 cylinder, add a cross-over to your system. I made up duels for a 51 Dodge that had the manifold split without a cross, cobby, installed one later and it sounded alot better.
Thanks, I will go with the dual and a crossover with the glass packs. The glass packs are fairly long but have a huge throat. They are bolt on glass packs for headers. They will be modified to fit the smaller 300 headers.
I have split headers with cherrybomb glasspacks and slashcut chrome tips. I don't really care for the sound. It sounds nothing like a V8 ! I just never got around to changing things. Try the crossover. Should help.

Just from personal experience, if you want it loud, you will be dissapointed with this setup. It is hard to get the 300 loud without keeping it single with a real short glasspack.
Yeah sure Glass packs at 20 bucks a piece sound like a deal buit whats gonna happen after the fiberglass blows out or burns up all you got left is a loud hillbilly/mexican sounding beast!
I don't know about the rest of my 67-72 brothers out there but nothing and I mean noithing sounds as good as flowmasters, even on a straight 6.
Hell any Turbo muffler beats the sound of a cherrybomb seven days a week!
there's nothing like that rapping sound when the secondaries open. with glasspakcs. but yeah when it comes time to put new muffs on Frankenford they will be flow masters or generic ones anyway lol.
Franken, you found an old post to reply to. There is lots of 300-six exhaust system info in the Inline-six forum. They make the most horrible sounding noise unless you get them right. Worse even than ricers with fart-cannons!!!
I like the sound that it has. The set up I have is a 300 with fuel injected heads converted to carb. 9.5:1 Compression offenhauser manifold, 390 4brl Holley and hedman hedders. Exhaust pipes are 2 1/2 inches and a h pipe is installed. I have long and wide throated bolt on headder glass paks that were cut and welded on to exhaust that comes out the sides just behind the rear wheels. The noise is not loud unless I put a load on it, then I get the classic glass pak sound with the secondaries opening. Other than that I am happy with the set up. Especially since i was not using the glass paks on my drag car anymore, so in a sense they were free.
i bet the H piep cuts the noise level down some... my z sounded pretty cool with 6 into 1 longtubes & a turbo muffler/ a really mellow smooth sound. the gasket at the collector would always burn out so it would have a bit of edge to its exhaust note.
My dad bought a new f150 in 1984 off the lot. he was looking for a basic work turck. he opted for a white one w blue vinyl, a 300 in motor and 4 speed trans. first was granny gear. It was his work truck so he didn't modifiy it at all despite his having been a hot rodder as a kid and always interested in cars.
He did find some chrome half moon rims for it... normal size in front & wider in back! i thought it was the collest thing he ever did. i was 16 i think. i wanted him to get coke bottle mags but he knew what he had in mind, and when he got those wheels mounted up it did look bad. ran them for some years till he bent one a little.
what year is the 300 in Mikes? is it in the 67 f250?

Yes the 300 is in a 67F250. Replaced the 240 that was originally in it. The 300 has fuel injected heads which were plugged and I have a 4brl holley carb on it. THe motor is a 89 300. Happy as hell with the combination. I have a 4 speed as well with the granny gear. The only thing I have to complain about is driving on the highway long distance. I don't speed like I normally would, but that can be good as well I guess for the driving record. Thinking about swapping rear ends with a 68 F250 I have that had a 3 speed automatic in it.411"s to 370" would help the highway driving and bring the RPM's down some. Other than that I am restoring this old beast a little at a time. Almost ready for some paint.
cool! something a little different than the usual. i think its cool when oldschool cars have computerized fuel injection or anti lock brakes etc. hidden inside.
