I didn't know they made a shift improver kit for the AOD-E/4R70W. I have a '94 Flareside/ 5.0L with the same trans. Unfortunately, I haven't found a kit to modify it. This trans is electronically controlled. The shift points and line pressure inside are controlled via solenoids and my understanding is....the only way to change those settings is to buy and aftermarker computer "chip". Make sure you are looking at the correct trans vice an E4OD trans. That one you can put a kit into.
Hi there fellow flareside owner.I have a 93 flareside with the 5.0 and E4OD trans.(2wd) I used a TransGo shift kit in my tranny. It comes from Summit racing for around 100.00. It comes with an instructional video, all the springs, and the drill bit to enlarge one hole.It improved the shifting at all speeds and throttle positions. It takes about a day to do everything.Shiftng is really aggressive at 50% or more throttle. Hope this helps. It's nice to see a fellow late model flareside owner........Steve.
I've got a '90 F250HD 4x, 460, E4OD with some nice mods. I put the TransGo kit in and it has made a great difference! Shifts are firmer, quicker and stronger. There's no headsnapping, but the improvement is well worth it. The kit only cost me $65.00 at my local performance shop. I had a my shop install it for $75.00.
I have heard of some service and followup problems with JET Performance, though. I've read some posts from some other guys who have had real trouble getting answers and fixits completed. I was thinking about replacing my trans with one of their upgraded E4OD's when mine finally goes, but I think a little more investigation is needed.
It looks as though Jet has a kit that installs in the transmission (HarleyDude51) for our trans. I was looking at their site at http://www.jetchip.com/transmissions/transperformance.cfm.
It just states that it is for AOD-E though ... it doesn't mention 4R70W. Could this be a different trans? Perhaps from a model older than the 94 or 95?
From what I've read on the aftermaket chips, they don't seem to be as good as the actual kits that can be installed into the trans.
It doesn't look like TransGo has one for the AODE/4R70W, but B&M does: Part#40264 ('92-'95 AODE/4R70W). Anyone used this?
I found some folks in South Carolina that have an outstanding website (and are very curtious) relating to Ford Transmisssions. They even race the AOD-E/4R70W! The experience level with this trans is unbelieveable. And, they offer performance kits for the AOD-E/4R70W. Check it out www.baumannengineering.com
hello 93 flare side owner here,i want to put a shift kit in and was told by the speed shop that the 93 came with two diffrent transmission im not sure of the one that i have , i looked at the side of the trans casing when the truck was inspected but i didnt see any letters, do any one have any idea how i can find out. thanks
Hi there Dee.I think the id code is stamped on the driver's side front corner, or somewhere close. I won't be at my truck until tomorrow. I will crawl under it then and get an exact location for you tomorrow.Hope this helps..Steve.
Hi Dee, sorry about that ,my mistake. Your trans code is printed on your driver's door pillar decal on what would be the bottom of the decal. My 93 flareside E4OD is the code letter E. Hope I didn't confuse you....Steve
Dee, An easy way to identify which trans you have. 14 pan bolts is the AOD-E/4R70W. 18 (I think) is the E4OD. Anything more than 14 bolts is the E4OD. Hope this helps.
