1939 hood latch

After about 1 -1/2 years I am almost ready to start putting my 39 pick up back together. One thing that is missing is the hood latch hadware. I have the hood ornament, but I don't believe I have any of the hardware including the latch. Can someone tell me what I am looking for? I don't think I ever had the parts. Can someone provide a drawing or provide a reference for how the hood latches. I know there are a couple of plates and a spring, but I am no sure how they go together

Thanks

1939 hood latch

JnJO39,
I am also restoring a 1939 Ford pick up and have the exact question about the latch. Will you let me know what information, if any, you get on this. I really appreciate your help!

Thanks,
Jadc7777

jadc7777,
This was a big issue for me. First there is a round to oval piece that fits on the bottom of the shaft of the hood ornrment. It an odd piece , more oval than round with an edge that slides in the retainer on the radiator shell. This is very important that the correct piece be used or the hood will not latch properly. I tried to make one, butit was not heavy enough and had too much play. I finally found one at a swap meet. I think a 37 car latch will also work, but a 38 truck will not work. It took me somtime, but I found one. I suggest you look at different swap meets.

If you want to get the hood right and want to use your hood ornament you need this piece. I could not find an aftermarket one so you just need to keep looking.
I am glad you are doing a 39, not many left
