ok.. i have a 98 expy. the rear end was leaking so i got a gasket and the syntheic oil.. here is my problem. both of my repair manuals state there is a oil fill plug in the front side of the rear axle housing. i can not find that plug. i can only find a sensor that is near the top of the housing. if i take off the sensor i can fill it from there. but how much oil to put in to it.. both manuals state to put 5.7 pts of oil in.. which is almost 3 quarts. i can not feel the oil when i put my finger in the hole as stated in the repair manuals. so i put in another quart with is now 4 quarts or 8 pints. and still can not feel the oil. i have both tags from the rear axel housing.

If it's like Fords other differential housings......the plug is on the right side of the housing (if youre facing the driveshaft side)...above the webbing of the housing. Sometimes it's a tricky angle to get to depending on your relative position. It should be a square-recessed plug...for 3/8ths rachet or extension to fit it. Your oil level should be just below that hole, any higher and it may blow out of the vent in the housing.
