Brake lines

I am redoing the brakes on my 1969 F-100 and find that I need to fabricate some new lines. Does anyone know of a method or tool that facilitates bending of the steel brake lines. I would like to form the coils in the line going from the master cylinder to the pressure distribution valve. I have various bending tools for copper lines but find that these do not work very well for the steel lines.

I did the coils at the master cylinder by wrapping (rolling) the brakeline around a chunk of 3" PVC pipe; go slow and hold securely against pipe and it will come out good.

A good trick for improving brake response and feel is to use adaptors and make those lines 1/4". The more fluid volume, the better the brake feel. Home depot has a tube bender, so does Napa. I usually do the bends by hand, if you work it slowly a little at a time, you won't kink it.

Ditto on wrapping the line around a 2.5"or 3" cylinder I did the same thing when I converted my 69 to disc brakes works great.

they make a bender that looks like garden hose with a spring on the outside that works quite well.

benders

Ridgid Tools make high quality hand benders that can bend steel or stainless tube. Not cheap between $64 and $72 each but a quality tool that will last a lifetime. With professional results, comments from others, you'll be glad you purchased them in 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8".

If you want to make a good investment, buy one that not only does 45 degree double flare, but, also the 37 degree -AN fittings found on the newer vehicles and accessories.
