Completly stock like right off the lot. The only thing i have on mine is a bullbar and some other stuff for looks but that wouldnt increase performance.
Save your new truck.I would not suggest more than 8 inches of anything.I would also recommend keeping a cell phone close in order to call a tow truck.Good Luck!
Mud:
About 4-6 inches deep and it was fine. I have the Bf Goodrich tires (18") and they were OK. Nothing to kill for though. I still down/up the slight hill a few times and helped a two wheel drive up the muddy terrain. It was early spring (for Calgary AB). Actually, it was the May long weekend. It was snowing/raining but I liked what my then 3 month old truck could do. The tires are the key of course. I got into deep ruts and had to spin the tires our of them... My truck was nicely 'mudded' to get back to town.... Got quite a few looks... I loved it.
Snow: I since oved to Manitoba and on Dec 31st, we got a good storm. 30 centimetres (12 inches) and snow drifts up to 3.5 feet high. I was watching this poor guy (driving a Dodge, 20 inches wheels, 5.7L Hemi) shevel his truck out of a snow drift. I was like a kid. I drove my truck out of my unplowed driveway, drove my truck behind his and pulled him out of the snow drift he was stuck in... I t was cool. Again, with the BF Goodrich (20000km - 12000 miles) the truck is behaving pretty good. Mind you, I did add 220 pounds of sands behind the wheel in the back, to add stability and traction.
I love my truck and so far, I have absolutely no problem to report.
One little thing that was fixed at my first visit, a noise coming from the rear passenger door.
As for mud, it will get through more than you think. Just don't stop. Once you get 2 1/2 tons of truck in motion, you can plow through some mud. I have the stock 18in BFg's, they suck in every way but ride quality. You really need to have the skid plates, as the stock ground clearance will have you beating the front one up pretty bad. Mine was actually toucking the front diff. Some sort of step or nerf bar is recomended. The fatory ones were sacrificed when I bottomed out in the middle of a large water filled mud hole. Better the step than the bottom of the doors though.
Check my gallery for pics. Also I'll will be adding pics on my homemade nerf/step bars.
they dont work too good in snow i got stuck but that was about a foot of it and mud under that. its ok in mud and i drove it through a foot and a half of water. rocks on dirt paths. the 4 wheel drive helps in places i cant even get it moving in 2 wheel drive but i need lockers for my truck

Have not been stuck really bad yet! Knock on wood!
Mud? Sort of depends on the conditions ... but just a couple inches of goop on a narrow non-flat trail can stop you real quick.
Snow? If it's wet or heavily ice capped ... see Mud. Otherwise in conditions with the light fluffy stuff up just past lowest points are controllable if side to side stays fairly level.
Rocks? As long as they are not sharp you can go just about anywhere clearances will allow. Even further if damage is of no concern.
Stock tires didn't last me very long! They were ok for highway conditions but certainly not good for getting around in the back country. Went to a 285/70/17 BFG AT - no more flats, more controllable in mud and unpacked snow. About an inch more clearance helps some too. Recently put in 4.56 gears and heavy sprung LS (couldn’t find a rear locker).
I went from a 99 Jeep TJ to my current 04 Screw and I don’t regret it a bit! Yes there are a select few places or conditions I can’t or won’t do now. Not a sacrifice but rather a plus as the ride is so much nicer and to actually have room for everything! Even get much better mpg too!
Last Fri I took mine home up a 3/4 mile gravel hill(our driveway) with 12" of blowing snow.Had to take er about 30 mph and no stopping but i was awful impressed because she didnt spin or hop once. By the way my wife made her up right behind me in her sport-trac and she even stopped once half way up.

YOMAN!
Yup... in the dirt & rocks they're great!!! I also might get another one someday ... but now I use motorcycles or ATV's because they get so many more places and much faster than the jeep could. My f150 does quite well for most places legal to traverse and the trip to and from the rough stuff is sheer pleasure!
